Ancnoc 16 yo - Festival Notes

On a festival recently I had a taste of this lovely 16 year old whisky from the Knockdhu distillery. Lovely expression that is on the nose first light, and full of citrus, mint and fruit.

But when tasting it next to that you can find some anice, more fresh fruit, creamy, milk chocolate, vanilla, raisins and red apple.

Lovely dram. Hope to get a better taste someday.

anCnoc - Tushkar - Tasting Notes

Nose
Prickly pepper hot note, light malty and a bit earthy?
Green apples, citrus and some garden mint. Some fresh grassy notes in the back between the rich custard below.

Palate
Fresh citrus lemon and orange notes with peat and some vanilla, chocolate and honey. Creamy, some spices, mint, and lots of citrus. Green apples and toffee.

Finish
Medium length, sweet, chili pepper, honey, pink grapefruit

Score
7 out of 10 at least, lovely dram. Needed some warmth and time to open up a bit.

anCnoc - Flaughter - Tasting Notes

Nose
Sweet citrus peaty notes with sweet vanilla creaminess. Some toffee coming through the thick layer. Spices mixing with some sweet fruit notes. Honey and some woody herbal notes...

Palate
Spice, black pepper, vanilla, cream, citrus, pomolo, pink grapefruit, some honey suckle and fudge. The peat gives me a feeling of some good roast with honey and dried fruits with it. Would be a good pairing with something like that and backed potatoes... Yummy getting hungry here.

Finish
Not too long sadly. Sweet, honey, vanilla and a little bit of dryness to it, with some cocoa powder in the very back of it.

Score
7 out of 10. Very nice for sure, balanced, sweet and fruity. Very enjoyable. But missing some length on the finish, it just fades a bit too quickly?

anCnoc - Rutter - Tasting Notes

This expression from Knockdhu distillery in the line of the peated whisky range of anCnoc is at 11.0 ppm. The Rutter spade is used to size and separate the peat blocks producing a turf that is slow burning.

Nose
Soft peat and wet land notes. Pear, vanilla, soft toffee, soft leather, red grapefruit, honey, cinnamon, warm red apples and a bit malt in the back.

Palate
Sweet with a soft layer of peat and earthy notes below a layer of vanilla, green apples, pears and toffee. Red grapefruit, lemon, mint and some pepper and herbal notes coming through.

Finish
Medium of length and with some orange pulp and grapefruit notes in there.

Score
Scoring this one between a 7 and 7,5 out of 10. It has some very nice tones to it. A lovely combination of sweet, soft peat and citrus freshness. But with me there was some orange pulp feeling in the back of the mouth on the finish I could not like. Thomas did not noticed that one, so maybe it is just me. Maybe get back to this one on a later date and see if I can find something more and adjust the score, because I think it has more in it then I am able to find at this moment...

anCnoc - 1993 - Tasting Notes

From the Knockdhu Distillery the anCnoc 1993 expression was released in August 2007. This whisky is non chill filtered, not colored and bottled at 46%.

The nose is fruity, sweet, fudge, vanilla and some lemon at first. Then green apples, lemon balm, red berries, strawberries and raisins come to the front.

On the palate the sweetness and fruit is lovely. Warm, honey, vanilla, cream, chocolate, honey, dried apricots, chili pepper, ginger, cinnamon, dense fruit cake, raspberries, almond shavings and marzipan.

The finish has a good length and carries the summer fruit notes quite good along with the creamy honey mouth feel.

A lovely dram, with nose and palate in good balance, with rich notes. It is honey sweet, warm of spices and citrus fresh. Something I just sit with for hours and enjoy slowly. A good 7,5 out of 10 for sure. Something to look out for in the stores.

anCnoc 12YO -Tasting Notes

Nose
Fruit, citrus, vanilla, soft, floral, fresh

Palate
Honey, citrus, banana, vanilla, apple, pear, plums

Finish
Sweet, fruit, middle long. Sweet but bit dry, bit metallic

Score
6 out of 10. Fresh and fruity, but the dry/metallic finish puts me off... Too bad.

anCnoc - 'Bricks edition'

The new anCnoc from the Peter Arkle series was announced on the 20th May and will be available to taste for the first time at the Edinburgh Whisky Stramash on the 25th and 26th of May. Because not every body is able to attend that, they send some samples out for tasting that weekend. We were one of the lucky ones to receive a sample.

anCnoc - Peter Arkle 'bricks edition' - Tasting Notes

Nose
Sweet, dark red fruits, vanilla, raisin, winter spices, cinnamon, clove, liqeurish

Palate
Citrus, fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, liqeurish.

Finish
Bit dry, sweet, but dry. Like gingerbread and metallic

Score
6,5 out of 10. Again the dry and metallic puts me off. Better and warmer then the 12 yo, but still, not sure about it.
