Loch Lomond - 18 year old cask strength

A sample of the 18 year old at 54,9% cask strength was shared thanks to the lovely people at the Loch Lomond distillery. It has a nose with wood and vanilla notes at first. Followed with darker ones of stewed fruits and meat with wood shavings. Heather, red apple, caramel, waxy honeycomb, dried fruits, plums, vigs, warm raisins and soft tobacco.

A warm, sweet, creamy palate that keeps developing. Loads of cherries, blackcurrant, plums, vanilla, banana, red apple, lemon, oranges, pink grapefruit, raisin and strangle enough a hint of spring onions. Getting also some bits of rye bread and good burned toast with salted butter, toffee and espresso. A creamy mocha mouth feel that is warming and sweet like a lush cake.

Marzipan, cranberries and coconut shavings on the palate with some earthy notes and burned sugar. Just a hint of bitter on the good length finish between the thick toffee and heavily burned toast notes. It feels at first a bit closed on the nose and palate but really opens up with some time revealing many lovely notes. Scoring it an 8 out of 10. Thanks guys for sharing!
