Kilchoman Machir Bay - 2014 bottling

Day 6 of The Whisky Advent Calender from the guys at Drink By The Dram is the Kilchoman Machir Bay, 2014 bottling. This 3rd release in the series is made from a vatting of 5 and 6 year old ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry butts, bottled at 46%.

The palate and the nose are very balanced. It gives me sweet fruity smokiness mixed with very very soft notes of heather (almost a bit soapy but in a good way). Soft spices, creamy milk chocolate, bit meaty, pear, liquerish, fruity, chilli pepper, oranges, ginger, blackcurrant and gooseberry.

The vanilla, chocolate, smoke and light hint of clove mixed with the honey sweetness gives a warm dram with quite a good finish. Little bit of dryness on the finish but not so much that it is conflicting with the sweet fruity total experience that I scored an 8 out 10. Thanks to Drinks By The Dram for sharing this one with us through the calender. Great way to explore different drams in this festive month!
