Deanston - Batch 2 - That Boutique-y Whisky Company

From Drinks By The Dram we got a package specially for Christmas to enjoy, a box of their Whisky Crackers! Each one filled with a dram, a hat and a joke to enjoy on Christmas day... Thanks for sending this over to us to enjoy guys! From the drams in the crackers there was one I did not have notes on yet, so saved this one for later. So, second Christmas day as we call it here, and others Boxing Day, this dram was opened. Not good at waiting :-) Lets see what they can tell us about this whisky:
Batch 2 of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's bottling of Deanston single malt features a graphic-novel-style label showing the stills being installed at the cotton mill where Deanston made its home in the 1960s. A pair of hippies watch as this happens, sat on the roof of their camper van alongside the River Teith, which powers the distillery with a turbine and dam. Groovy!

Jim Murray gave this a score of 88 points in his Whisky Bible 2015. Batch 2 is a release of 248 bottles. ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.
The nose has lots of orange marmalade, barley and vanilla notes. Sharp lemon freshness and something warm chocolaty also in there... It is fresh on the nose, but also has some fruit mix and something leather and coconut in it? May be the overload of food, drinks and other things that Christmas brings... but my nose cant seem to pinpoint the exact notes at the moment... All one big mix but lovely on the nose... that is the most important...

The palate brings out a lot of warm fruits from apple, banana, pear juice, lime, oranges, pink grapefruit, mango, pineapple and again that coconut... Caramel, chocolate and creamy vanilla also come to the front after the fruit notes wear down. A warming, fruity and creamy dram, that is a good one to enjoy this Boxing Day for sure. Middle length finish and scoring it an 7,5 out of 10.
