The Ardmore Port Wood Finish, the last whisky in the #TheArdmoreWhisky Twitter Tasting and also the recently released expression in their line up. Bottled at 46% and matured for 12 years in American white oak Bourbon barrels and finished in European half Port pipes. The Port influence goes very well with the all ready sweet and fruity peaty spirit.
On the nose I find sweet dense vanilla in the thick fudge notes mixed with oranges, tobacco and raisins. Cinnamon, red berries, raspberry, strawberries with sugar, cappuccino, milk chocolate, heather, chocolate, cherries, bit meaty note, rosemary, thyme, lime and pine.
From the palate I get a soft creamy & fruity feel with soft clover like honey. Rich vanilla again with toffee and red apples. Pear juice, light grapefruit, soft tobacco and an overload of red berries. Much like the nose on the palate.
Medium length soft finish with coconut, sweetness, mocha, red fruit and orange candy. Warm creamy vanilla pudding. Warm red fruits and heather notes balanced with lingering smoke. Great one for sure and scoring an 8 out of 10.
