The Maltman - Bruichladdich 23 year old

From the Maltman in October/November an 23 year old bottling will be released from the Bruichladdich distillery. Matured in bourbon cask #1542, distilled in April 1993 and 264 bottles bottled in September 2016 at 46,9% cask strength.

The wood spice and pepper notes are really overpowering on the nose at first so adding a drop of water to it. After nosing and tasting it a while I feel that both on the nose and palate the same notes can be found making it a balanced combination.

Showing a hint of liquorish and spices mixed into the creamy vanilla with raisins, soft lemon, grapefruit, white grapes, blackcurrant, green and red apples. Fruit notes mixed into a vanilla sponge cake with some mixed spices is what comes to mind after a while.

The wood spice notes make it a bit sharp but it has a soft vanilla sweetness with some dark fruits like blackcurrant and plums on the medium length finish. An enjoyable dram, thanks for sharing a sample of this new release Andy!
