Blair Athol - 1998/2011

A while ago some samples were swapped with Thomas Hermann at Maltstock. He gave this sample of a Blair Athol expression from a single cask collection. The label states that it is distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2011 at 12 years old and 61,2%. The nose is at first very nutty and rich of honey. Macadamia, peanut, almond and hazelnuts. A light note of lemon thyme and roasted malt. Soft fresh fruit notes of oranges, stewed pears, banana, plums, kiwi and peaches. Cinnamon, vanilla and soft anise. A palate full of spices, fruit and sweet candied ginger at first with notes of cookie dough and little hint of marshmallow. Sweet vanilla, raisin, oranges, creamy, brioche, powdered sugar and black pepper. Much like the nose for sure and it feels balanced. It all has also a bit greasy feeling to it. A good length finish with honey sweet fruits and nuts. Scoring me a good 7,5 out of 10. Thanks for sharing Thomas!
