Benromach - Sassicaia 2007

Benromach distillery recently released a new expression in the wood finishes series called Sassicaia. In total 3500 bottles produced at 45%. Distilled in 2007 after initially being matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels and then followed by 24 months in Sassicaia casks from wine-producing region of Bolgheri in Tuscany.

Sweet, fruity and creamy nose with notes of fudge, warm red apples, cinnamon, vanilla, raisins, oranges, banana, raspberry, white chocolate, cereal, honey, brown sugar candy, pink grapefruit, lemon drops, redcurrant and dark wheat freshly backed bread...

Palate is just like the nose sweet and fruity and has a bit of a leather feeling on the middle length finish. It is a bit heavier on the palate. The nose was more fruity and on the palate I am getting more heavy floral notes mixed with honey, cherries and dates.

Feels a bit more like wood notes on the palate then the cereal and grain notes from the nose. Lovely dram, but after the nose I expected more like that on the palate also. Scoring it an 7 out of 10, due to not finding it fully balanced. Thanks Benromach for sharing a sample, very interesting dram!
