Mortlach 25

The Mortlach 25 year old is bottled at 43,4%. Before I had a look at the 18 year old and Rare Old from the official bottlings next to some independent expressions from the Mortlach distillery. Curious to see what I can get out of this one.

Malty notes on the nose with cashew nuts, macademia, walnuts mixed with melon, apricots, honey and light wood notes. Some freshness of ripe fruits, citrus and mint coming through this all and also giving some soft tobacco and baking spices note.

Cardamom and orange marmalade together with some green tea notes, that last one could be from the tea I had before, but either way, now getting green tea.

On the palate this all continues quite nicely and even enhances a bit on the malt, nuts, wood and tobacco notes. The honeyed fruit and an almost Turkish delight note gets pumped up a level.

Quite nice on the palate where the nose was a bit giving me the feeling of holding back and not showing it all. Sadly the finish is not that long I find but holds some notes of creamy vanilla and liquerish. Lovely dram and scoring it an 7,5 out of 10. Thanks Mortlach for providing the sample so I could explore some more from this distillery.
