Ardmore distillery is located in Kennethmont in the Highlands, founded in 1898 and owned by Fortune Brands. On the eastern edge of Speyside at kennethmont between the River Bogie, the Clashindarroch Forest and the foothills of the Grampian mountains lies Ardmore Distillery. It was founded in 1898 just before the collapse of the whisky market a year later due to over supply. Its survival can be attributed to the fact that it was built to maintain malt supplies for Teachers' Highland Cream. Ardmore is from the Gaelic, Ard-moi, meaning 'big slope'.
This Ardmore is bottled at 43% and matured in Refill Sherry Hogsheads. On the dense nose I could find beeswax, heavy cherry syrup, oak and stewed fruits. An almost roasted meaty feel to it. The palate is heavy and dark with ripe dark summer fruits, blackcurrant jam, plums, vanilla, chocolate, liquerish, stewed fruits, leather, fudge and beeswax again. On the medium length finish is some minty chocolate finish with pistachio. Scoring it an 7 out of 10. Finding it a hard one to detect more depth in it. It is a good dram, but very sweet. Thanks Gordon & MacPhail for sharing it!
