Plantation - 20th anniversary

From Plantation comes this lovely 20th anniversary rum that I had a chance of tasting at the festival in Ijmuiden. At the website of Plantation they tell me the following about it.

A blend of the company's oldest reserves, this rum is something else. Selected rums aged for long years in the Caribbean are painstakingly blended by our cellar master at Château de Bonbonnet then matured in small French oak casks for a further 12 to 18 months. Double aging gives the rum an incomparably round and creamy palate. The colour of old mahogany, Plantation XO 20th Anniversary reveals a nose with exotic notes of sugarcane, oaky vanilla and toasted coconut, enhanced by more complex aromas of cocoa, candied orange and cigar box.
On the nose I found this one to be beautiful sweet and full. Soft fresh notes of equaliptus, sweet custard, strawberry, soft peaches, red apples, raspberry and a hint of fresh pine in the back. This continues on the palate, and feels balanced with a sweet edge of light white chocolate. Anise and liquerish is mixed with lots of spices and makes me think of gingerbread and rich spices cake. Lots of red fruits, custard, powder sugar, cream bun, marzipan, pepernoten, speculaas and tangerines.

Finish is quite a long one with citrus, orange freshness, sugar cane and full honey sweetness. It keeps developing and is not overly sweet but balanced fruit, honey, flowers and spices. Creamy velvet feeling. Scoring this one an 8,5 out of 10
