West Indies - Rum & Cane Merchants - Brazil XO Rum

At the festival last week organised by Zeewijck I had a taste of this single cask rum from Brazil that I found to be very interesting. West Indies - Rum & Cane Merchants is new to me (the world of rum honestly is) so I tried to find out more on it, but sadly did not came further then this info:

West Indies Rum & Cane Merchants is our single cask rum brand. We only select rums from lesser known distilleries or rum producing nations of the world and present them once that rum has reached an age that perfectly represents that country or distillery’s style. Each of our releases is limited to just one barrel. To preserve the character of these rums we do not chill filter or add caramel colouring to them.

So, if anyone knows more on these or the distillery, please let me know. There were four different ones on the table and this one comes from the Esprit distillery in Brazil, was drawn from cask #1, bottle 098, bottled at 46%, made from cane juice and matured in a refill rum cask.

On the nose I got lots of different spices but soft ones, not that in your face presence that you sometimes can have with rums, velvet soft was this one. A touch of cinnamon, creamy vanilla, raisins, citrus, baking spices and ginger bread. This all continued through on the palate, with adding some sweet ripe fruits and giving a rich creamy and soft feel of vanilla custard with spices mixed. Middle length finish and nicely balanced dram to sit back with and enjoy. Scoring it an 7,5 out of 10. If you want to find out more for purchasing or price have a look here at the Zeewijck webshop
