The Ultimate - Laphroaig 1998 / 2013 - Tasting Notes

Nose
Sweet and smoky nose, full with nice leather a tobacco notes.
Dried fruits, figs, heather, moor notes, packed wet autumn leaf beds, mushrooms, earthy. Vanilla, dark chocolate, cranberry and blackcurrant.

Palate
Spicy, red pepper, but sweet and smoky flavors at the first taste.
It is a warming dram, like a nice camp fire, sitting on the beach. It is a bit ashy and salty but with a sweet dried fruit undertone, and not overpowering it all.

Combination of honey flower, vanilla, raisin, some heather, tobacco and leather. Dark chocolate and caramel with a nice blackcurrant and black berry note entwined in it.

Finish
Medium finish, with the dark chocolate and some bit dry peat notes coming through in the end. With just a hint of some chocolate orange bonbons with marzipan and some mint...

Score
7,5 out of 10. Very nice bottling of Laphroaig. Distilled on 22/09/1998, bottled on 05/11/2013 at 46%. We tasted from bottle no. 454 / 780 drawn from cask no. 700354, and matured in a Refill Sherry Butt for 15 years.

This is really a warming dram to enjoy at a rainy day or at a good campfire with friends when having a good BBQ roast...
