Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch no.001 - Tasting Notes
Nose
Soft sweet stone fruit tones hit my nose at first, some creamy vanilla/chocolate sweetness covering that. Like diving in to a pile of chocolate chip cookies, fresh, full of sweetness and grain tones. Trow some spices in the mix, and I am a happy woman. Toffee, pepper and cinnamon also come by just a bit...
Through all that sweetness you can also pick up a hint of a combination of lime and mint notes, something fresh coming through.
Palate
Warm, sweet, pepper, and honey... The pepper is strong at first, then the stone fruit tones follow closely. Some caramel, fudge, a bit of wood, pear, cinnamon, apple peal, and some marzipan follow.
Finish
Bit dry banana, vanilla and oak on the medium length finish.
Score
Like the nose and the palate, but there is something in the finish that I just do not like.
It is a sweet warming dram. But it has a bit dryness and bitter note in the finish. Reminds me of a banana peel, and must say I am not a big fan of banana, so that maybe is setting me of a bit. But looking at the whole picture must say that it is a very nice dram. Give it a 7 out of 10, a bit lower then I would love to give it, but that is pure to the banana milkshake left...
This bottle we shared with friends after receiving this one at our room at Maltstock. What a lovely start of a weekend that was. We savored it also a bit for home, to have a proper taste, and a way to think back at the 'relaxed whisky weekend' . This bottling was the first edition of the Cask Strength bottlings, natural color, batch no. 001, un-chillfiltered. Bottled at 58,7%...
I have never tasted something of Glengoyne before and am not disappointed must say. Love to taste more of their expressions in the future...
Slainte!
