Gordon & MacPhail - The MacPhail's Collection - Bunnahabhain 2006/2015

Gordon & MacPhail send over a sample of whisky from the MacPhail's Collection in the #WoodMTW campaign. It is from the Bunnahabhain distillery and distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2015 at 43%. It is a non peated expression matured in first fill and refill Sherry hogsheads. On the nose I find apples, galia melon, toast, oranges, lemon, gooseberry, rose hip, vanilla, powder sugar, creamy, fresh, green tea note with some chamomile and mint. White pepper, white chocolate with puffed cereals, honeyed fruit notes like fruit syrup from mixed canned fruits, roasted nuts and a bit BBQ heavy roasted charcoal note.

The palate is young and fresh with some light citrus roughness almost at first. After that the creamy and fruity notes appear and make it much like the nose. Roasted nuts, raisins, vanilla, cranberry, redcurrant and a light cassis note in the back. I find it to be a "light and young" palate at first, with liking the nose more. But then after some time the palate releases the thick sweet fruity, spicy and rich cake notes, revealing more of the casks used for maturation. Medium length sweet finish with notes of soft milk chocolate, vanilla, honey and fruit. Scoring it an 7,5 out of 10. A nice dram with some interesting notes for sure combined with this distillery but just misses something to make it sparkle. Maybe just a bit more ageing and wood interaction? Thanks Gordon & MacPhail for sharing a sample to try!
