Mortlach - 18 year old

The Mortlach 18 year old is bottled at 43,4% and has a lovely sweet nose that shows the influence well of the Sherry casks used in the combination of making this whisky. A sample of this was shared after the Beast of Dufftown event in Brussels that WhiskySpeller attended.

On the nose I first get a bit of tobacco and caramel/fudge notes. Some ginger, nutty, cinnamon, fruit cake, light leather, green apples, vanilla and oak. Some red fruit notes emerge after a while like raspberries, strawberries, redcurrant and cherry. Lovely thick notes...

The palate is creamy and shows different kind of fruit notes in it. From green and red apple, banana, dried pineapple, red forrest fruits to kiwi and pomegranate. Star anise, cinnamon and ginger clearly present in this mix with some other soft spices.

It has a medium length soft finish that leaves some dry feeling of the tobacco and leather notes with creamy vanilla. A nice warm whisky that you can sit back with on a cold winters day and enjoy some fruity summer feeling. Scoring it an 7,5 out of 10. The downside keeps to be the price and bottling size that makes me not reach out to it in the shops sadly...
