Abbey Whisky - The Rare Casks - Glencadam 22 yo - Tasting Notes

Abbey Whisky treated us to a sample of this Glencadam 22 year old whisky out of their The Rare Casks series. It is distilled in 1991 and aged in a refill bourbon cask for 22 years. Non chill filtered, no colouring, and 96 bottles filled at 55.3%

Nose
Toffee, citrus, pepper, pink grapefruit, mint, barley, bit waxy, ripe galia melon with salty ham. A soft honey nose with some spices and soft fruits.

Palate
Sweet and pepper at first with honey and vanilla. Raisins, fruit, barley and toffee. Citrus and mint, with some white chocolate creamy notes after that, giving you something of a cheesecake feel.

Finish
Medium length, and vanilla and light creamy milk chocolate feel to it.

Score
The nose felt a bit harsh at first, it had soft and sweet layers lying underneath, but it was covered by the malty and wax a bit. It needed some time to open up to me. The palate was very sweet and fresh, and not what I expected when nosing it really. It is a nice dram, liked the palate more then the nose. Giving it a good 7 out of 10. Thanks Abbey Whisky for sharing it with us!
