Abbey Whisky - The Rare Casks - Bunnahabhain 23 yo - Tasting Notes

Time for another lovely whisky. This edition from the ‘The Rare Casks’ series by Abbey Whisky comes from the Bunnahabhain distillery. Distilled in 1989 and matured in a refill bourbon barrel for 23 years, and bottled at cask strength of 44%.

Gave it a 7,5 out of 10. Balanced, sweet and fruity with a peaty/salty side to it. Lovely dram. Thanks for sharing a sample of this one with us! Please have a look out for the lovely expressions from Abbey Whisky!

Nose
Bit earthy and fresh pink grapefruit nose. Some fruity, honey and liquerish notes come to the front, and deliver a sweet warm feel. Marzipan notes, soft banana candy and soft spices. There is almost something salty in this one...

Palate
Light peat and earthy feel, but with sweet honey, vanilla, raisin right after that. A slight dry nut note coming to the front, mixing with lots of fruits. Chocolate flakes with rich fruit cake and a liquerish ball you can get at carnivals. The notes from the nose come back beautiful and soft on the sweet palate.

Finish
Medium length finish with sweet vanilla notes and a creamy almond/marzipan cake (gevulde koek)
