Heard of this one before the festival, and was looking forward to meeting Patrick again on the Pot Still Festival to have a little taste of it. The stand of Zuidam was so very busy that there was sadly not much room for questions or chatting with him.
Found the 1999 PX Cask very beautiful, and it is bottled at 46%. Gave it a 7,5 out of 10, but the price is the thing really that is stopping me from purchasing this one at 84,95 euro.
Hope to have a chance again to have a taste of this one somewhere to have a closer look at it...
It was good to see that a lot of people were looking at the products of Zuidam. They are promoting them selfs in a good way at the moment. Sadly for me, because I was hoping to try some more of their products like korenwijn and rum, they make beautiful things. Maybe next time....
In a dramset of DH17 we got the chance again to try this one at home. So lets see what we can get out of this one? This one is distilled at 16-2-1999 and bottled on 27-08-2013. Had a lovely almost simular whisky in a twitter tasting last year... But this one is I think a step higher, and deeper in taste... A beauty.
Raisin, rum sweet tropical notes, warm, thick, butter, chocolate, sweet dried fruits, dried apricots, cherry in thick sweet syrup. Cassis, pineapple, hint of cocos. Banana, ginger, vanilla, dense fruit cake and Christmas cake. Leather and orange marmalade, brown cane sugar sweet. Very very nice, rich, deep, fruit, sweet, mixed with some good spices. Keep sniffing this one....
Palate
Warm, sweet, brown sugar cane sugar, leather, vanilla, raisin, ginger, dense fruit cake, cassis, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, speculaas, banana, red apple, and some mint freshness coming through in the back. Some powdered sugar coating with some icing, a very delicious filled muffin with chocolate and fruit, and covered with amazing icing. Liqeurish, laurel and lots of sweet fruits...
Finish
A long finish filled with chocolate, vanilla, orange marmalade, pistache and potters.
Score
8 out of 10. When we can, we definitely have to find an bottle to add to the collection. Lovely.
