When we were on Islay and meeting lots of people we received a sample of this 25 year old Springbank, the 2015 bottling. Johanne brought this over from a tasting at the Springbank distillery during the festival there. We took it home to enjoy and make some notes on it.
Nose
Soft and sweet, powdered sugar and honey at first with some custard crème and light nettles in the back. Peaches (soft and warm), light floral, poached pears in red wine and soft spices.
Palate
Pepper, honey and fruity notes on the palate. Sweet, soft, vanilla, raisin, bit dryness on the teeth from light nutty flavour mixed with marzipan, dates and nutmeg. Warm sweet feel to it. But feels also delicate. Soft warm baking spices and warm pears. Oranges, grapes, peaches, light soft floral note, toffee, but also behind the sweetness some young grassy notes?
Finish
Medium length, sweet and warm notes lingering on.
Score
7,5/10 It feels balanced, but also delicate. Lovely expression.
