Old Ballantruan - Tasting Notes

The Old Ballantruan is a heavily peated malt from the Tomintoul distillery. Bottled at 50%. This gives it really a nice extra punch I think, great dram.

Nose
Herbal, fudge, cocoa butter, peat, malty, vanilla, mint, lemon, and little bit meaty. Some sweet fruits and dried apricots. Apples, blackcurrant and some ripe raspberries.

Palate
Sweet, warm, peaty, green herbal note, dark chocolate and mint. Vanilla, creamy, lemon and some fresh summer fruits, cherry, green apples, oranges, fudge, and some other dark summer fruits in the back.

Finish
Medium length finish. Chocolate, creamy, vanilla and minty.

Score
Going from a 7 to almost 7,5 out of 10. Something I could purchase a big bottle of really.

It needs some time to open up, gave me some not so nice tones at first. But coming back to it with some rest it is becoming more and more pleasant en warming.

It feels balanced and there is a very sweet and also fresh layer hidden under the peaty layer. Very nice and for 42 euro I think it is a very good price/quality combination.
