Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve - Tasting Notes

Jameson about the Rarest Vintage Reserve...

"A triumph of the collaboration between the Jameson Masters, our hand crafted Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve is a true masterpiece. The advanced aged whiskeys in this magnificent reserve are brought together with pot still whiskey that has been matured in hand-picked second fill bourbon casks to create a mellow sweetness in specially commissioned port pipes. The result? Gloriously rich fruit character with an unmistakable barley finish. But don't take our word for it: this rare blend was voted the world's best Irish Blended Whiskey at the 2009 World Whiskies Awards."

Had a taste of this one in the #IrishWhiskey Twitter Tasting organized by Steve Rush from The Whisky Wire. Lovely expression, shall we see what my nose and palate found in this one?

Nose
Fresh, sweet, cranberry, heavy black forrest fruit, vanilla, thick notes, deep sweet fruits, bee wax, plums, dates. Greek yoghurt, granola, summer fruit, chocolate, lemon sweets, turkish delight, toffee.

Palate
Sweet, creamy, cherry, plums, red berry, chocolate, vanilla, cassis, dark forest fruit explosion, honey. Tropical freshness and fruit combined with mint/citrus, but with more warm sweet wood notes and spices.

The cassis and dark forrest explosion on this palate is very very nice. Like some sizzling sweetness that hits your tong, combined with vanilla notes and minty freshness.

Finish
Bit dry cinnamon, and cocoa but amazing finish on this one with the berries and chocolate. Fresh, sweet and rich.

Score
8/10, complex and layered. This Rarest Vintage Reserve is matured in Port Pipes at 46%. You can see this come through beautifully.
