Havana Club - Seleccion de Maestros - Tasting Notes

We got a sample sent by Shai of this Havana club's new expression, Selección de Maestros. He got this from Deia from Havana Club Italy, and shared this with us so we could try it.

On the website of Havana Club we can read about this expression:

Selección de Maestros is a Triple Barrel Aged rum, fruit of a unique process of elaboration: First, the Maestros Roneros gather and select the finest and most exceptional aged rums. These rums are then blended and placed for further ageing in barrels carefully selected for the aromatic properties of their wood, in which the rum will develop its character and intensity.

Finally, the Maestros Roneros get together a second time to select the rums that have perfectly matured. They will make up the final blend, bottled straight from the barrel at 45% ABV.
The unique finishing process of Selección de Maestros, gives the rum its unequalled aromatic bouquet and an exceptional smoothness, a quality that has been rewarded by some of the world’s most influential spirits competitions for many years - yet again in 2013 and 2014.

Been meaning to explore more other spirits like rum, and was very excited when Shai mailed me that this sample was on its way to us. Lets dive in to this one shall we?

Nose
Warm, roasted nuts, lots of spice, bit sweet woodnotes, raisin, vanilla, honey, chili pepper, plums, and lime and mint freshness mixed in it. There is sugarcane sweetness, red apple, banana, pineapple freshness, orange, and pink grapefruit.

Palate
Lime freshness and bit oily. There is some liqeurish note coming through with some spearmint freshness. Sweet, fruity, honey, raisin, some spice, banana, chocolate, vanilla and a light ginger note

Finish
The rather long finish is sugar cane sweet with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Some honeyed tropical fruits mix in with that...

Lovely dram, would love myself a bottle of that for sure! You can find it at the Whisky Exchange for 47,45 pounds.

Thanks Deia for the opportunity to taste it!
